The angst and grief in the story seemed unlasting, especially since the novel is set in a timeline of only about a week. I will say there were some pieces that felt dramatic to me that were brushed off by the characters nonchalantly, which seemed weird. ![]() I was unfamiliar with the setting and much of the Australian slang, but once I understood a bit better, it was a truly wonderful read. It did take me a few chapters to get into the book. I can't get deep into the novel without revealing any of its secrets, but it's one I really enjoyed. If you're looking for a fast-paced, twisty thriller - this probably isn't the one for you. I would definitely consider this novel to be a slow-burn. Otherwise it's manipulation and it's taking advantage." - Jane Harper, The Lost Man The Lost Man by Jane Harper Three brothers, one death, a fenceline stretching to the horizon.
